Surgery
Written Feb 18, 2013 10:56pm by Paula PittsingerI wanted to update you on Brandi's recent happenings. We knew at the last visit here that there was possibly a tumor in her bowel (the same one that shrunk with Zelobraf a year ago) and we were scheduled for a CT next week. She began experiencing pain, nausea and abdominal distention. After a long night last night and day today, she will be having surgery tomorrow to remove the part of her bowel where the tumor is. They are working her in and are calling it a "high grade" partial obstruction where only a very small amount of fluid is getting past the tumor. She's extremely uncomfortable and quite anxious. Please say prayers that she is comforted tomorrow before surgery knowing God is in control and the doctors are his vessels doing his work here. Thank you all for your love, support and prayers. From our family to yours GOD BLESS YOU ALL.-
February update
Written Feb 6, 2013 8:57am by Paula PittsingerBrandi's recent PET showed no new tumors in the body. The cancer in the bowel was "bright" like a lightbulb but could not be measured like on a CT scan. The tumor under her arm is now a centimeter. The tumor on the tailbone is gone after radiation txment. On February 26-28 we will come back for an abdominal CT scan to measure the possible tumor in the bowel. She will also have a repeat MRI of the brain to evaluate the hemorrhage of the old tumor site. This must be resolved in order for her to enter a trial. No abnormalities in the brain is a criteria. Since they cannot biopsy two areas (the bowel being one) surgery may be our next option. That would allow her to be cancer free and they would possibly leave her on Zelobraf.
Brandi is amazingly resilient beyond what I ever imagined. God has supplied her strength for every obstacle that she has endured. For you that do not know she was also attacked here in Houston. Even with the weakness in her joints and legs she was able to fight him off and get away. It's a long story but he stole he car and it ended up totaled. Needless to say this has been a very interesting week here in Houston. God Bless you all and we love each and everyone of you. -
New Years in Houston
Written Jan 3, 2013 8:39am by Paula PittsingerHappy New Year to everyone. I hope this update finds you and your family blessed and healthy!!
I wanted to update you all on Brandi's health status.
She is undergoing the last half of her radiation to the tumor on her tailbone.
We are also waiting to see what trial her medical oncologist will be placing her in when finished with radiation.
The pain this go around has been excruciating to say the very least. Her radiation oncologist thinks the tumor may have fractured the tailbone. She told us that she should not be in this kind of pain and should have had relief by now. She feels confident the tumor is shrinking due to the return of feeling she had lost in that area. However, she has got to get the pain the pain under control. We are seeing a pain management doctor to see what else we can do. Last night was her worst night so far with no relief from strong narcotics.
I know you all are praying for and loving her from wherever you are.
I will update the next chapter in our day and hopefully will be called "relief".
Much love and gratitude from Brandi and her entire family.......
